Kim's sailing adventure from La Paz to Mazatlan

A friend of ours purchased a boat and needed help sailing it from La Paz to Mazatlan (approximately 250 nautical miles), across the Sea of Cortez.  He asked Kim to crew for him so Kim happily did it January 7-9th.

The most Family visitors to Mazatlan!

We were truly blessed with family visitors this season.  We're hoping it continues into future seasons as well!  We loved every minute of each of their visits.

Christina and Stewart's visit January 16-22nd

For the first time ever my niece and her husband came to see us and explore Mazatlan!  It was the perfect Birthday present for me!!!  We only had 6 days together but we filled every day and night with adventure and lots of laughs.

Amy, Jessica and Connor's visit February 28-March 7th

Kim and I were sick (cold/flu) during Amy and the grandkids visit but we still had a wonderful time together.  The grandkids are growing so fast!  This was their 4th visit to Mazatlan so they already had ideas of what they wanted to do while they were here.  Their favourite activities included spending time at the pool, building sandcastles on the beach, climbing Faro Lighthouse, and a visit to Stone Island too.  We accomplished it all!

Dad, Dreana, and Tracey's visit March 9-23rd
Glenn's visit March 9-16th
Jason and Kim's visit March 16-23rd

It was the 2nd visit for my parents, and the first visit to Mazatlan for my sister and Glenn.  It was supposed to be filled with rest and relaxation but with so much to see and do here, it was pretty busy.  They wished they could have stayed longer so hopefully that means they'll be back next season!

It was Jason's 5th visit to Mazatlan, and it turns out his girlfriend, Kim, had been here once many years ago too.  It was wonderful to see them and have family time together.  They also said they wanted to come back again and stay longer next time.  Yay!

A visit from Friends in BC

It was a wonderful surprise to have our friends, Tanya and Ed, join us at El Cid for the day on Tuesday, March 27th.  We had a chance to reconnect, and enjoyed some quiet time at the pool too.  It was a quick stopover in Mazatlan for them, as they're making their way to Guaymas now.  We hope the tradition continues, as our paths crossed at almost the same time last year.

Our Mazatlan Friends

My dear friend Jo-Ann hand
painted this Birthday card of Douglas for me
Over the last 5 years we have made so many friends in Mazatlan.  We enjoy going out for meals, playing games such as Poker, Uno and pool volleyball together, going for long walks, and so much more.  We always miss our friends when we head home, but we know we'll reconnect again come November.  We are so fortunate to have made such close friends here.  They're always eager to lend a helping hand when needed too.

Dinghy Day Trip to Stone Island

When we arrived in Mazatlan we talked about taking our dinghy over to Stone Island for the day.  Since it's open ocean here we had to wait for the perfect weather window, meaning very little wind, calm seas, and no fog.  On top of that we had to plan it around the many activities we'd committed to as well.  I'm happy to say that after 5 months, we finally made it to Stone Island in our dinghy on April 6th, and it was a beautiful day.

What's Next?

This is our final blog update from Mazatlan for this, our 5th season.  We are flying home on Sunday, April 15th.  The season has gone by so very fast!  Over the next week we have lots of projects underway to get the boat ready to leave it for 6 months.  Kim is busy making new window covers to help keep the boat cooler in the intense heat of the summer.  We just had the boat washed, waxed and polished, and Kim will dive it to clean the bottom one last time before we leave.  After that we've arranged for Dockside Services in Mazatlan to care for it while we're away.  We will take the boat back to Marina Mazatlan on Thursday, April 12th and store it there until we return to Mazatlan in early November.  We look forward to reconnecting with our family and friends back home over the next few months.
